Earlier this month, it was discovered that data belonging to American Financial was located on a Network Attached Device that insecurely backed up internal Ameriprise data to an employee's home. This incident highlights the importance of locking down devices when employees work from home and for companies to retain full ownership of the device, or at least have a policy in place that allows the IT department or company that services the business to manage the home device. Killer Robots!!!??!?
On Friday, December 16, the UN agreed to discuss a ban on killer robots intended to prevent an arms race to self-targetting and firing devices. The 123 signatories "agreed to formalize their efforts next year to deal with the challenges raised by weapons systems that would select and attack targets without meanigful human control," per a report by Human Rights Watch. Why this is important should be obvious to anyone who has watched any of the Terminator movies.
